Elaine Scott

Hi, I’m Elaine

Several years ago, psychotherapist and author Lori Gottlieb made this comment: “When it comes to writing the story of our lives, we should all be aiming for our own Pulitzer Prize.”

This statement resonated deeply with me because I’ve found it to be true.

Our lives are stories we’re continually writing. They consist of characters, challenges, and choices each of us must make to move the plot along. And as the main characters in our stories, don’t we want to do whatever we can to write the best story possible? But try as we might, wouldn’t we agree that there are many moments when we aren’t sure what to do or how to write the next line? We’re stuck, wondering, “How do I get unstuck?”

That’s where each of us needs help. Being stuck, though uncomfortable and scary, is a critical place in our stories because it’s also where pivotal decisions are made that lead to positive, productive, forward movement. This is true whether you’re a just a little (or a LOT) stuck.

If you want help, I’d love to work with you. Here’s why: As a pastor, I’ve spent over 25 years helping people work through pivotal moments in their stories, and I’ve learned a lot!

But, maybe more importantly, I bring extensive personal experience to my work. I’ve dealt with sexual abuse, eating disorders, miscarriage, learning how to forgive (and keep forgiving), learning and enforcing boundaries, being a female in professional pastoral ministry, toxic spirituality, how to age well, surviving menopause, caring for aging parents/parent with dementia, how to do conflict (not combat), navigating difficult family matters and difficult family members, parenting a child with mental illness (bipolar, severe anxiety, ADHD), navigating an adult child through divorce and life as a single parent…and that’s just off the top of my head!

These challenges have taught me how important our choices are, and how essential it is to choose well. While we can’t always control what happens to us, we can choose how we’re going to respond. And in my story, that’s made all the difference in the world. I believe it can in yours, too.

I have a masters in Christian leadership from Dallas Theological Seminary and am a certified life coach. I’ve been married a long time, and have two adult children and a grandgirl. If you’re interested in either pastoral counseling or coaching but have questions, I’d love to help you make a great first decision by offering a free phone consult.
