Beginning Sandtray Therapy with Children and Adults

Description: This training covers the basics of understanding sandtray therapy and using sandtray therapy with clients. Participants will leave understanding the history, principal advantages, and key basics of using sandtray therapy with both children and adults. Participants will get in-depth training on developing and caring for sandtray objects, sand, and sandtrays, leaving them confident in their ability to gather the materials and equipment needed to provide sandtray therapy. Participants will receive in-depth training and exploration on how to guide clients in sandtray builds and to explore and process them with clients. Clients will get demonstrations in exploring and processing sandtray builds. They will then, under the guidance of the trainer, practice with each other to explore and process sandtray builds.

Beginning Sandtray Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will learn a brief history of sandtray therapy.
  2. Participants will learn at least three benefits and advantages of using sandtray therapy with clients.
  3. Participants will learn at least five key basics for using sandtray therapy with clients.
  4. Participants will learn and practice at least five strategies for assessing and five strategies for processing sandtray builds with clients.
  5. Participants will learn at least four starting prompts to use with clients.
  6. Participants will learn how to clean and care for the materials needed for sandtray therapy.
  7. Participants will learn at least two ways to get buy-in from the clients for using sandtray therapy.
  8. Participants will learn the categories of objects in sandtray therapy.

Presenter Information

Dawn Lamprecht, LCSW, RPT, RST

Dawn Lamprecht is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Registered Play Therapist, and a Registered Sand Therapist in Marietta, Georgia. Ms. Lamprecht has years of experience and extensive training in using sandtray therapy with clients. Dawn Lamprecht is a member of the World Association of Sand Therapy Professionals and the Southern Sandtray Institute Sandtray Suite. Ms. Lamprecht has received training under international sandtray therapy trainers, including Dr. Terry Kottman, RPT-S; Marshall Lyles, LPC-S, LMFT-S, RPT-S; Linda Homeyer, PhD, LPC-S, RPT; and Amy Flaherty Hood, LPE-I, RPT. Ms. Lamprecht works therapeutically with both children and adults and is currently working toward the RPT-S credential. Ms. Lamprecht received her MSW from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2003.
